Helps relax nervous and excitable horses
Calmer Equine is a unique horse supplement with a DUAL approach to helping manage horses that are prone to nervous, anxious, excitable behaviour.
- contains a unique blend of natural calming ingredients such as magnesium and B group vitamins
- contains a prebiotic (scFOS) and probiotic live yeast culture (Yea sacc 1026) which help stabilise and calm the digestive system
Many researchers now believe that some types of undesirable behaviour such as wind sucking, box walking and general irritability may be linked to an underlying digestive problem.
Key benefits:
- contains Magnesium 'anti stress mineral' and B group vitamins which help relax muscles and the nervous system
- contains Pre-biotics and Pro-biotics to promote digestive calm
- Ideal for excitable and spooky horses
- Ideal for horses prone to stress
- Great to use before competition or during periods of box rest
- A great tasting powder easily mixed in with horse feed
PLUS
Calmer Equine is competition safe - contains NO doping ingredients such as valerium.
Unlike many products on the market, Calmer Equine does NOT contain tryptophan. Research suggests this does not have any calming effect on the horse but can adversely affect athletic performance causing horses to tire more quickly.
What do our customers say ?
I recommend using Calmer Equine. Since using this horse calming supplement I have found that my excitable Thoroughbred is much calmer in his box , easier to handle and is much more relaxed at competitions. I have also noticed that over the Winter I have found it easier to keep his weight on. What a relief!! Alex Skelton
Magnesium
Magnesium, often known as the anti-stress mineral, is one of the major minerals required by the horse and is involved in a number of important roles in your horse's body, including regulating blood pressure and the release of adrenaline, as well as relaxing the muscles and maintaining the nervous system.
Magnesium is used up more quickly during exercise or when under stress and depleted levels can lead to muscle tension, excitable behaviour and loss of concentration. For this reason working / competition horses tend to be particularly effected.
Many horses that get "spring fever" may also be suffering from magnesium deficiency. Spring grass when it is growing very fast is rich in protein and energy but tends to take up less magnesium than it does at other times of the year. This can also happen again in the Autumn but to a lesser degree.
Calmer Equine contains a chelated form of magnesium (magnesium metalosate) which is much more easily absorbed / digested than other cheaper materials that are often used.
B Group Vitamins
Calmer Equine contains vitamins B1 (Thiamine), B6 (Pyridoxine) and B3 (Niacin).
B group vitamins are all important for the metabolism of carbohydrates, fats and protein and play an essential role in the function of the bodies nervous and muscular systems.
Vitamin B1, also known as thiamin, helps fuel the body by converting blood sugar into energy. It keeps your mucous membranes healthy and is essential for nervous system, cardiovascular and muscular function.
Vitamin B6, (pyridoxine), helps brain function and helps the body convert protein to energy.
Vitamin B3 (niacin) is important for converting calories from protein, fat and carbohydrates into energy. But it also helps the digestive system function and promotes a normal appetite and healthy skin and nerves.
Vitamin E plays many roles in the body and is essential for maintaining muscles, the immune and nervous and cardiovascular systems. It is also a powerful natural antioxidant helping to mop up free radicals. Free radicals are waste products naturally produced by the body, but more so during exercise, which means that working horses tend to have a greater requirement for vitamin E.
Prebiotics & Probiotics
With billions of bacteria and hundreds of different species, the bacterial population of your horses gut can have a big influence on both performance and general health. Bacteria flourish by the fermentation of non-diestible feed components (fibre). As a by-product of this fermentation volatile fatty acids are produced. These VFA’s help maintain the intestinal ph at such a level that the harmful bacteria cannot proliferate
Calmer Equine contains both a prebiotic and a probiotic which work together to help stabilise and calm the digestive system. This helps reduce the risk of digestive upset being the cause of nervous or erratic behaviour.
The prebiotic included in Calmer Equine is a special kind of sugar known as a short chain fructo-oligosaccharide (scFOS). Derived from sugar beet the scFOS passes into the large intestine undigested. Once there, scientific trials have shown that it acts as a food source for friendly bacteria such as lactobacilli and bifobacteria which are able to digest it and therefore proliferate. This helps to stabilise the normal ph of the digestive tract preventing the development of harmful bacteria such as salmonella and E.colli. This good balance of microflora thus offers the animal improved digestive comfort.
Yea-Sacc1026 is probiotic live yeast culture that works in the horses hind gut to improve the digestion of fibre and micro nutrients. Yea sacc has has gone through years of extensive trial work and is currently the only EU approved live yeast culture for use in horses. As a digestibility enhancer it is scientifically proven to ensure healthy fermentation of the feed resulting in maximum extraction of all nutrients. This helps to prevent any digestive upset in the horse, which is beneficial for health and behaviour.
Calmer Equine contains a natural clay called sepiolite. Sepiolite has been shown to help absorb harmful toxins in the digestive system. These toxins (aflatoxin and mycotoxin) can be released by moulds and fungus sometimes present in hay and cereals.
