Flyball has been around since 1994 but a surge of interest in the unique sport has meant here in the UK we currently have the largest flyball association outside of the USA. The British Flyball Association states they have over 15000 dogs registered to race in the many events across the country! If you’re looking for a fun, fast paced and family friendly activity with your dog then Flyball could be for you!
The exciting team sport attracts owners and their dogs of any breed and size with concessions made for smaller dogs in jump size. The only specification is that your canine friend must be over 18 months old and fit and healthy enough to take part!
So how does it work?
The game involves a relay race of four dogs and their handlers seeing two groups at a time go head to head to race over a 51 foot long course. The dogs take turns over the allotted jumps and trigger a flyball box releasing a ball, which they retrieve, and then return over the fences. The first team to have all four dogs complete the course without error wins. Each competition includes five legs allowing every dog and handler multiple attempts to enjoy completing the course.
