We’d like to talk to you about DHA Omega 3 and its benefit for dogs.

Extensive research shows that DHA Omega-3 is well known for its nutritional benefits. It cannot be made by the body so has to come from foods. It is particularly beneficial for joint health, brain development and is completely sustainable.

There are several benefits of giving DHA Omega-3 to dogs:

Joint Health and Mobility

DHA helps to ease movement and aid circulation, thus allowing the synovial fluid (joint oil) to flow freely over working surfaces of the joints. DHA plays an essential role in the proper functioning of many of the major systems in the body.

This will especially benefit older dogs experiencing joint discomfort.  At around seven years of age, dogs are considered to be middle aged, and just like people, many dogs slow down as they mature. Many dogs will become less keen on regular exercise as a result of joint and muscular pain, but the weight gain which follows a decrease in exercise can further exacerbate the problem!

Brain Development and Function

Research has also shown that DHA Omega-3 plays an important role in brain development and function. Trials conducted on puppies have shown that a DHA supplemented diet resulted in quicker learning and improved memory. Other obvious benefits are a healthy skin and coat.

Sustainability - better for the environment

DHAgold is a sustainable, algae derived source of DHA Omega-3.  Most people believe that fish produce their own DHA Omega-3, when in fact it is the algae in their food chain that makes them a rich source of DHA. Algae are consumed by plankton which in turn are eaten by the small fish. Then larger fish feed on the smaller fish, and so the DHA is passed on up the food chain. But the process all starts with the algae!

Because DHAgold gets its DHA from algae and not fish it is a consistent, sustainable, none marine source of DHA which is free of ocean-borne contaminants.  The DHA content in fish can vary significantly dependent on fish species, geographical origin and the way the raw materials are processed and stabilized.  A growing population and over fishing will also make fish stocks an unsustainable source of Omega-3 in the long term.

DHAgold is grown from strains of algae which are naturally high producers of DHA. The DHA-producing algal are grown in large, stainless steel fermentation vessels commonly used in the pharmaceutical and food industries. After fermentation, the algal biomass is carefully dried to produce DHAgold. These microalgal flakes contain a high level of DHA ideal for use in pet nutrition products.
